Explore Mauritius And The Amazing Whales

A unique opportunity to explore the coast of western Mauritius in search of giants: sperm and humpback whales.

The mystical sperm whale, named after the creamy sperm-like fluid found in their heads, is the largest toothed animal on the planet, with males growing up to 20 meters! They live around the waters of Mauritius year-round, feeding on giant squid in the depths of the ocean. We use hydro-phones to locate them by listening to their “clicks” and watch them when the opportunity arises. Being in their majestic presence is truly a life-changing experience.

Humpback whales also come to the waters of Mauritius from July-September. The pregnant females migrate from the cold waters of Antarctica to the warm and sheltered bays of Mauritius to give birth and raise their calves until they are strong enough for the open ocean. The babies spend their time playing and breaching, curiously finding their way. Being in the water with them and witnessing that motherly bond they share is something that will stay with you forever.

Note: This is a snorkeling experience. No prior snorkeling experience is required. Only moderate swimming is required and a thirst for adventure!

ITINERARY

Day 1

Welcome to the island! You will arrive at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport and private transportation will take you to your hotel where you can rest and relax. We will have a welcome dinner to de-brief you on what to expect during your stay and get to know our group.

Days 2-6

Start your mornings with whales. We meet in the mornings to venture out into the ocean and look for the largest toothed animals on the planet, the sperm whales. You will have an opportunity to listen in on the hydrophones that help us locate the whales by hearing their "clicks." Being in their majestic presence is truly a life-changing experience. We will also search for other sea animals while we are in the ocean, such as humpback whales and dolphins.

In the afternoons, we will gather together for lunch and do a quick debrief of the reflections for the day to help you think about what you can do for your overall health and wellness. Private coaching sessions are made available for you every day.

We will have daily excursions available to see the other sights on the island of Mauritius, from hikes, safaris, food culture, nature parks, and waterfalls. You are also open to requesting other experiences to provide you the opportunity to enjoy the best of what Mauritius can offer.
